Enrichment Programs
RPEF’s goal since our inception has been to provide academic enrichment for the children in Grades K through 6 at Pine Grove Elementary School. We strive to compliment core curriculum with program presentations designed to stimulate the joy of learning and encourage creative thinking. Our experience has shown that programs promoting interactive participation and hands on student involvement inspire these objectives.
RPEF compliments the teacher’s introduction to the arts and sciences in grades K through 3 with programs such as Bubble Day (a program developed by parent volunteers who were former teachers and now continuing on an annual basis with financial support from a local business), Origamido Studios (Origami-Math focus), Science Discovery Museum, (changes of matter). These programs introduce bubble science, math concepts and the physical properties of matter. In the higher grades we provide programs such as Forensic Science (available by a state volunteer program), Mr. Magnet (electricity and magnetism from MIT), and Mainly Stars Planetarium.
These programs challenge students to think outside of their textbooks, with the use of hands on simulation and experimentation. A member of RPEF, or a volunteer parent carefully researches all programs to ensure age appropriateness and quality content. The programs are a tremendous source of enrichment of our science and social/environmental studies curricula.
